To all ERASMUS students:

Montpellier, January 21, 1999

Professors Pierre Hébrard and Mireille Mahous to all ERASMUS students

First of all let us wish you a wonderful year 1999.

Bonne et Heureuse Année 1999!

Success in your studies, good health, good friends and everything you wish for in a world of peace.

We will be very happy to welcome you to Montpellier. We'll try our best to facilitate you stay here. We can already confirm that Montpellier's lovely sunny spring weather will arrive while you are here. The almond trees in full bloom will be the first to greet you after Pierre, Mireille and our administrative coordinator, Kevin Lightner.

So, have a safe trip to France and to Montpellier.

What should you do before you leave?

For your general comfort:

  • Work both on your English and your French!!!
  • Make sure to have Kevin Lightner's phone number with you as it is the number you should call if you have a major problem:

From 2 PM to 4 PM on Saturday, February 6th,
and from 2 PM to 4 PM on Saturday, February 7th call:
Kevin Lightner at the number that has been sent to you by e-mail.

  • (The best thing is to buy a phone card as soon as you arrive in France. They can be used all over the country. They are available in various sizes (credit amounts) and prices. You can buy them at the Post Office, tobacco shops, news stands, train stations and airports.
  • Make sure you have the address and phone number of you residence.
  • Make sure you bring YOUR PASSPORT and at least 4 or 5 passport-size identity photos. Bring them with you on the first day of class.

In order to be ready for your first week of classes:

  • We would like you to bring with you a few personal things like pictures, images, graphic documents, etc. that you really like. Please leave your favorite cat/dog/bird/snake at home. We'll meet them when we visit you one of these days.
  • We also want you to research and bring information on Adult Education in your country.
  • These requirements are absolutely essential. The material and information you will gather and bring along with you will be very important for the first module.

What should you do when you arrive?

Go to your residence, make yourself at home, rest and enjoy the city (and why not the beach?) over the week-end.

Note: Through your coordinator or via a direct e-mail, you have received all the information you need concerning your accommodation. You were supposed to confirm your reservation by calling or writing to your residence before January 10th. Your reservation is valid only if you have confirmed. If you haven't yet... DO IT RIGHT NOW! It is now your own responsibility. Montpellier is a major University city and therefore student housing is difficult to find. Make sure you've taken care of your housing needs BEFORE you leave home. There are still some units available at the Résidence Saint Odile (right next to your classroom building).

Transportation

From the airport to downtown Montpellier:
There is a shuttle bus (navette) going from the airport to Montpellier (Cost = 30 Francs). Get off at the end of the line (terminus) which is the downtown regional bus station. The train station is next to it.
From the train station to your residences:
There are city buses across the street from the ground level exit of the train station. They run from - 7 AM to 8:30 PM. They will get you close to your residence.

And then what?
