Notes - Matilda of Flanders (c. 1031 - November 2, 1083, Caen) was the wife of William the Conqueror and, as such, Duchess of Normandy and Queen of England. She was regent of the duchy of Normandy while her husband was in England and also participated in courts of justice with him in the kingdom across the Channel. She was also the mother of two future kings: William II of England and Henry I of England.
