In December of 1996, I sold our
house in Hendersonville and came "back east". I had reserved a
"cottage" at the new Asbury Soloman's community in Solomans MD. Word of my
fund-raising work for McKendree Village in Nashville reached here and they promptly
elected me to the Board of the Asbury Foundation. I recruited and now chair the
Asbury Solomons Residents Development Council. Then my fellow cottage dwellers
elected me as one of our representatives on the Resident's Council. In January
I joined St. Paul United Methodist Church in nearby Lusby. Next year I'll be
chairing our Stewardship Committee and will serve as a Lay Member of the
Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference.

In 1996, I was
elected to the Board of Trustees of the New England Historic Genealogical Society. This
has been an exciting time for the NEHGS. Work on the renovation of the Society's research
library has been completed. The Research Library is located on three floors. It
holds 200,000 volumes, a rapidly expanding collection of records on CD-ROM and 10,000
rolls of microfilm; subscribes to over 400 periodicals, and houses nearly one million
manuscripts.
